Types of Septic Systems

Septic systems aren’t one-size-fits-all. The type of septic system that you need will depend on the size of your home, the number of people in your home, the topography of the land on your property, and more. The pros at Sewer & Septic Specialist know how to consider all the details when it comes to the design and installation of your new septic tank. Read more below about the types of septic systems that we install.

Anaerobic Septic Systems

These types of systems may differ slightly, but they involve the use of bacteria that don’t require oxygen. These systems consist of two main pipes. One connects your home to the septic tank and the other connects the septic tank to the drain field. Solid waste and wastewater flow into the tank via one pipe. The anaerobic bacteria feed on the solid waste that settles to the bottom. The wastewater is dispersed into the soil via the drain field.

Aerobic Septic Systems

Aerobic systems feature three parts that treat your waste in different ways. First, the waste and wastewater flow into the first of three tanks. The first tank is similar to a traditional septic system where anaerobic bacteria break down solid waste. In the second tank, the waste is treated with an aerator that forces bubbles through the waste, allowing aerobic bacteria to consume more waste. Finally, it’s moved to a third tank where it’s treated once more before being dispersed on your lawn.

Septic System Inspections

Septic Systems aren’t meant to last forever. It’s on the owner of the system to ensure that proper maintenance is being done to the system over time. This includes regular inspections, cleanings, and maintenance work. Regular system inspections could provide the following benefits:

  • Increased efficiency
  • Fewer problems
  • Increased system longevity
  • Fewer tank overflows
  • Fewer odor problems
  • And more!
